Pablo ‘The Apprentice’: Ever Wonder What a Giclée is?

‘Any bones?!’

Hi I’m back! I was having a nice puppy nap… and when I woke I remembered I was supposed to explain what a Giclée is and why I prefer them. I spent some time with ‘The Artist’ and her team at Davidson Fine Art. By the way they also do this work for many of the top artists and museums around. This week I saw Giclées being made for the Dali Museum! Click HERE for Some quick facts:

I hope that helped!

Back to work! Got some lizards to chase… Woof! Oh…for a limited time…. Use promotion code: TAKE20 to save $20 off all of AMR’s Limited Edition Giclee’s!

What is a Giclée?

Giclée prints are currently the most sophisticated method of print production on earth.

  • These are extremely high-quality archival print reproductions made with the finest materials and the best inks available. No exaggeration!
  • The skilled craftsman takes a high resolution image of the painting (done in a professional studio) and analyzes and adjusts it to closely match the original painting. Superior density pigment dyes are sprayed using specialty equipment. They can be produced either on canvas or Archival Fine Art papers. The artist is usually is consulted with for a final approval, ensuring the accuracy of the reproduction.
  • Because of the quality of the materials used, Giclées last more than 100 years – making them significantly different than a lower cost mass production art print. Think of the difference between a newspaper print and a poster or greeting card… how it may fade or smudge over time. There are prints… and then there is a Giclée.
  • A Giclée on Archival paper is fine art, often released in a limited edition, making them more valuable for art collectors or investors. Many are hand signed and the artist may offer certificates of authenticity for those pieces.
  • Some artists add their own “Hand Embellishment” to a Giclée. This means the artist paints over parts of the canvas by hand to emphasize specific attributes of a painting. Those embellishments might even be customized specific to the request of the purchaser. Any “Hand Embellished Giclée on canvas” is a unique piece of art – no two are ever the same. This personalization makes them more valuable as unique and original pieces of art because of the variations made.

I hope this helps… When you are unable to obtain an original, there is nothing wrong with buying a standard “art print.” But, if you can spend the extra money and want a collectible piece of “Fine Art” I recommend you go with a Giclée.
