Each of my paintings is inspired by my heart. As a self-taught artist, I seek to capture and share my view of experiences, people, places and moods. I’m often asked how often I paint, and my response is, “When the mood surfaces.” I never know when, but it lasts a few days and I recognize it quickly. I call it being in “a flow” because during those times creative expression dominates my focus.
Another frequent question is whether I always know what I am going to paint. I don’t always know what painting is coming – something just triggers the inspiration. It could be music, recent travel, light, interesting images I see or a photograph, a thought in my mind that I try to sketch and capture, or a feeling from an animal or person. Paintings change as my brush touches the canvas, usually, the style of expression continues to unfold until the image is final. My favorite medium is acrylic on canvas; alternating through a mix of styles.
I’m also asked how long I have painted and where did this come from. Going back to my earliest memory, I have had an interest in drawing and painting. I recently discovered a photo taken by my mom when I was age two, wearing a Santa-hat and holding a paintbrush. I did not paint for most of my formative and early adult years. School, family life and my career as a corporate executive in the financial services industry were my focus – until recently the worlds intersected. Once I picked up a paintbrush again, my passion was reignited. Last year, I began painting for friends and family whose support and encouragement, as well as that of fellow artists, has further inspired my passion. Up until recently I have been painting on commission for private collections, but at the encouragement of colleagues and friends have elected to offer my paintings more broadly.
Having left my corporate career behind me, I have the time to embrace, explore and cultivate my gift. My other interests include travel, having adventures exploring St. Petersburg with my boxer, Pablo, and staying physically active through swimming, yoga and personal training workouts. I moved to St. Petersburg, Florida in 2020, and have joined other local artists at Five Deuces Galleria. My paintings are available through my website, my studio in St. Petersburg, FL, as well as NFTs (non-fungible tokens) for collectors. I thank God for my gift of expression and the opportunity to share it.
I hope some of my paintings bring you inspiration, entertainment and a smile.
